Van from the vault

We are enjoying exploring our vanning heritage at the moment in SM. The current issue has a Six Pack of famous vans from back in the day and next issue we'll devote a feature to one of the most famous vans of the era - one that somehow was never featured in Van Wheels, Street Machine or any other mag for that matter. Happy Birthday Jim

 Happy birthday to Jim Broadley of Diablo Motors, who turns 75 today! 

Any vintage speedway fans out there? I'm trying to figure out if these pics are of Aussie or US origin. They are from the Australian Hot Rodding Review archives.

And the winner is....

Winners actually!

Jimmy Barter provided the names: "The FJ Holden custom 'Olde' is Lance Simmers, Dick Bushell's Red '34 5W, Phil Buchanan's Tilted T (at back) and R. Grimshaw's '23 T (under FJ)."

Andrew Parish filled in the rest: "It was taken in 1971, at the Wayville showground in Adelaide for the Adelaide Hot Rod Show."

We featured Dick's coupe (now black and blown) in the 2007 SM Hot Rod Annual and we revealed that Lance's Draggin' Coupe is a alive and well in Street Machine, March 2008. There will also be an interview with Lance in the next Hot Rod Annual, on sale this September.
