...on Route 66! If things have seemed a tad quiet here on the SM blog, that's because I've been in the US for over five weeks. I was there to have a holiday and to take in the Lonestar Roundup and Viva Las Vegas, but with the exchange rate so good, I thought I'd take the plunge and bring home a car as well. To make things more difficult for myself, I wanted to buy something running and with rego, so I could take in the Texas to California leg of Route 66 as well. After looking at a lot of shiny (but rusty) classics, I took the plunge on a '61 Lincoln Continental, complete with suicide rear doors, 430ci V8 and plenty of gadgets, including fast glass, power front seat, drop-down air/con, central locking - and more cigarette lighters and courtesy lights than I know what do with. Look out for the full story on our 1500 mile trek to LA - through deserts and snow and taking in everything from giant meteor craters to wigwam motels - in an upcoming issue of SM.
