The City of Joondalup had a series of concerts over the summer period culminating in the Retro Beach Party at Sorrento Beach. A huge stage was set up on the beach and a small but quality crowd of around 50 hot rods, muscle cars and classics showed up.
For a first time effort it turned out very well, and although it would have been nice to see more cars in the car park, there wasn't a great deal of parking anyway. For the general punter showing up for a free rockabilly and swing concert, the sight of a few dozen cool cars was an added bonus.
Here's a handful of cars that showed up.
Tony Mattioli's Willys looks tough from any angle.
Dave from Fiddy Cutoms came all the way from Mandurah to enjoy the party. This '50 Chevy Fleetline is one of many cool cars in his stable. (Apologies for the crappy overexposed shot.)
This is why I go to just about any gathering of cars. There's always something you haven't seen before. Another Mandurah car, this Mainline was no show car, but was a very cool bit of gear.
John Vogiatzakis rocked up with his whole family in tow in this neat Split Window Kombi. This man is credited with advising me to put grease in my hair a LONG time ago. Back then he had a neat FC Holden as a daily driver and a Triumph Bonneville 650 for when he felt like going fast-ish.
A recent arrival to Perth's streets is this ultra-cool Model A coupe originally built by Al Winter. It's been trhough a couple of owners since him and now sports a set of wires in place of the Daisys that I remember it with. Thankfully, the Mopar donk and more importantly, steering wheel are still in place.
Gary King's Model A roadster is a rod run regular and always looks a million bucks. Clevo power up front and a red tuck and roll interior are spotless as well.
Al Erdman of Big Al's Poker Run fame rocked up in his Model A Tourer, HOT TUB. Killer flame job by Ray Williams, Jag rear and a 351 Windsor make for a great package.
Noddy Prendergast's Topolino features a Lexus quad-cam V8. That's about the last motor I expected to see under the hood!
For a split second I thought Anthony Sant had shown up. This pair of '57s showed up late, but no-one was complaining.
A handful of trophies were handed out, one of which was the Mayor's Choice (or maybe the CEO of the C of J), anyway, deservedly the prize went to Paul Saldaris and his absolutely gorgeous '57 Chevy. I don't know what it is with this car, as I've seen plenty of black '57 Chevs, but there's something extra sharp about this one. Could be the fact that it was built by Boyd Coddington.
And some bloke showed up in a Rambler...
