Van and Hot Rod Show for Bushfire Relief

From my mate James the Vanner:

A display is being organised for all Panel van and Hot Rod owners to help in the relief by raising funds through donation for those involved in the bushfires. It is a very casual day as you can come and go as you please. Starting time is 9.00am, so set up is from around 8.00am. Don't be embarrassed of what you drive, just become a part of a great event and show off your pride and joy.

Remember this is an event for those who suffered, not an event for us, there are no trophy's only the satisfaction of knowing you helped in some way.

When:-    Sunday 15th March

Where:    Bundoora RMIT west campus

               Plenty Rd Bundoora,  Melways Map 10, A7

               Enter through the main entrance into RMIT off Plenty road

Time:       Arrive from 8am....set up by around 9am and finish time by 4pm

Speed Week 2009 is go!

 

Confirmation has come through that the DLRA Speed Week at Lake Gairdner is set to rock. The salt has been checked and word is that it is in tip top condition. All drivers, team members and spectators are required to attend the driver's briefing on the evening of March 10. For more, click here

Super Southern Swap Meet

Well the 20th annual Super Southern Swap Meet at Ballarat for 2009 is done and dusted and I mean dusted! There was no water cart this year due to the severe shortage of water in the area. We woke early Friday morning to rain falling on the tent and cool temperatures. We downed some Weetbix and off we went with a pocket full of money. Prices ranged from the ridiculously dear to absolute bargains, just depended on what you were after. Friday turned into a hot and dusty afternoon and the morning shower having no impact on the dust generated. We walked from 6:30am to 8:30pm to cover the swap just once. We only stopped because we didn’t have a torch, but I am sure we could have bought one.

Went to town for a couple cleansing ales, then back to the tent. Saturday morning was the same story - rain falling on the tent for about half an hour and off we went again trolley in tow, but our wallets a bit lighter. Walked all day until 5:30pm and our feet were really sore by now. My mate bought an XP Falcon at Broadford on the way home for $1900 and drove it home. In the pic of my trolley, note the alloy centred CONTESA rim I bought seven of them on spec for Johnny Trunzo for the Draggin’ coupe, when I told him he seemed to be very happy. In the trolley there are 11 rims, one grill shell, a radiator, our (empty) esky, guards for a highboy and a few small bits and pieces. All up, at top weekend!

George Poteet is possibly America's most prodigious builder of amazing muscle cars and hot rods. The bloke has more than a dozen currently under construction, as well as running a land speed racing team. He had this awesome '32 five-window on show at the Grand National Roadster Show. Goodies include the Miller-Indy track-style nose, aircraft-inspired instrumentation, chrome-nmoly tube frame and torsion bar suspension. The car won the Outstanding Rod Overall award.
